How to Choose a Dental Implant Provider in Apex, NC

Choosing where to get dental implants deserves more thought than a quick Google search. Implant treatment involves multiple stages, a significant investment, and a long-term relationship with the provider managing your care. Here’s what to consider when evaluating your options for dental implant treatment in Apex and Cary, NC.

Understand Who Does What in Implant Treatment

Dental implant treatment typically involves two providers: a surgeon who places the implant post and a restorative dentist who designs and places the final crown. At Magnolia Way Dentistry in Apex, NC, Dr. John Wayand provides the consultation, treatment coordination, and final crown placement. The implant post is placed by a trusted specialist who focuses on the surgical phase. This collaborative model allows each provider to focus on what they do best while maintaining continuity of care for the patient.

Questions to Ask Any Implant Provider

What does the total cost include?

Ask for an itemized estimate that breaks out the consultation, imaging, the implant post, abutment, crown, and any preparatory procedures like bone grafting. Vague estimates are a red flag. A trustworthy provider gives you a clear, complete number upfront.

What happens if the implant fails?

Implant failure is uncommon — success rates are above 95% — but it happens. A quality provider will explain what failure looks like and what the protocol is.

Who places the implant post, and what are their credentials?

The surgical placement phase should be performed by a dentist with specific implant training — typically an oral surgeon or periodontist. Ask about their experience with the specific type of implant being used.

Red Flags to Avoid

  • Unusually low pricing with no clear explanation. Quality implant components cost what they cost. Dramatically discounted implants often involve lower-quality materials or providers cutting corners.
  • Pressure to commit at the consultation. A reputable provider gives you a clear picture of treatment and cost, then lets you decide without pressure.
  • No discussion of your medical history before recommending implants. Certain health conditions, medications, and habits (particularly smoking) significantly affect implant success rates.
  • No imaging before surgery. CBCT scan or full X-rays are standard before implant placement to evaluate bone volume and nerve locations.

The Value of Coordinated Care

Patients who receive implant treatment through a coordinated model — where the restorative dentist and surgeon communicate clearly throughout — consistently report a smoother experience. You’re not managing your own referral or coordinating between disconnected offices. Dr. Wayand’s team handles that coordination directly, so you always know where you are in the process.

Start With an Honest Consultation in Apex, NC

The best way to evaluate whether Magnolia Way Dentistry is the right fit for your implant treatment is a consultation with Dr. Wayand. He’ll review your bone health, discuss your situation honestly, and give you a clear picture of what treatment looks like, what it costs, and what to expect. Request your implant consultation or call (919) 362-5777.

I had an excellent experience at Magnolia Way Dentistry. From the moment I walked in, the staff was incredibly welcoming and made the visit feel very personal. I recently had a filling done, and it was the smoothest procedure I’ve ever had, everything was handled with true professionalism. Dr. John is outstanding and truly the best. Highly recommend!

This is an excellent dental practice with warm and caring staff. The dentist is young and most kind. I found them when I moved to town, but had to wait for my other dental insurance to expire so that I could sign up for their annual plan, which is a great deal - probably better than having dental insurance. Highly recommend.

Very pleasant first time experience here. The entire staff very pleasant and answered any questions I had. My cleaning was great, and teeth feel very clean. Dr. John took time to answer my questions and gave me advice on how to keep teeth clean. Over all a great dental practice. I also like that fact that it is a private dental practice.
